Zakat Collection & Distribution

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, an obligatory annual payment on qualifying wealth. Muhammadiyya Network operates as a trusted intermediary: we receive Zakat from donors, verify recipients against the eight categories defined in the Qur'an (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60), and distribute funds directly to those who qualify. Every disbursement is recorded and every donor receives confirmation of where their contribution went.

Recipients: low-income families, widows, orphans, people in debt, the chronically ill, and students unable to meet education costs, all within the Kalmunai and surrounding areas. Donors: any Muslim whose wealth has met the nisab threshold for a full lunar year and who wants their Zakat handled locally and transparently.

Submit an application with the required documents, online or at the office.

A committee member visits the household to verify circumstances.

The Zakat committee reviews the case and decides on eligibility and amount.

Approved recipients are notified and funds are disbursed.

Donors receive a summary of how the pooled Zakat was allocated.

National Identity Card copy. Grama Niladhari certificate confirming residence and household status. Proof of income or a statement of unemployment. Supporting documents where relevant: death certificate, medical reports, school or university enrolment letter, or loan documents. Applications from outside the service area will not be processed.
